All of our swimmers swam great times; James Klein was just on his pb in the 50 backstroke. In the same event Harrison Preston took a lazy 4 secs off his pb finishing 10th. Harrison had already swam a 2.5 second pb in the 50 Fly and in his last event for the day (50 breast) swam a 2 second pb. Sarah Cooper was just off her pb in the 50 fly, but made up for that by swimming a 3.5 second pb in the 50 free, however Sarah's best time for the meet came from her relay leg in the 8yo girls 4x50 free where she clocked a time of 41 seconds - 6.5 seconds faster than her entry time. Sarah's relay team just missed out on a medal, finishing 4th. Our first competitor for the day was Maxine Ness, who, in her first event (50 fly) managed to strip 3 seconds off her pb to finish 4th. Her second event was the 50 back and, with a 4 second pb, Maxine finished with a Bronze medal. Next was the 10yo girl's free relay where she took her team straight into the lead with a lead-leg time of 32.5 secs, and gave Maxine her second medal of the meet - Gold! The next event on Maxine's busy schedule was the 50 breast where she slashed 4.5 seconds off her pb and finishing with a Silver medal. On to the 50 free, another pb (31.7 - 3.5 secs off her entry time) and another Silver medal. Last of all was the 10yo girls medley relay, where Maxine swam the fly leg and helped her team to a Bronze medal. Well done Maxine - 5 medals from 6 races! Congratulations to all our swimmers that competed at the 7 to 10 elims and finals - it's great to see some young enthusiastic swimmers coming along! 7-10 Eliminations 2011Date Added: 2011-10-18Sunday morning five of our junior swimmers headed out to the Haileybury pool to swim in the Metro South District Eliminations. The top ten swimmers in each race at this meet will swimm again on November 13 in the Metropolitan 7-10 Competition. For two of the swimmers this was their first experience at a real meet. Our swimmers that are moving on to the finals are:
A special mention should also go to Charli Bowers who swam in the 8yo age group due to the 'age-up' date of this meet, even though she was still only 7! A fantastic effort saw her coming home just outside the top ten in two of her races. Well done Charli. Congratulations to all our finalists and good luck on the 13th of November. If you are a finalist but are unable to swim at the finals, can you please let me know by Oct 28th, I can then inform the Metro South officials and they will be able to put someone else in the event in your place.
Victorian Open Water Championships at HazelwoodDate Added: 2011-10-18Unlike last year the weather was perfect and the water was warm (26C). The meet was a lot better organised this year too with the 5km swimmers in the water first off in the morning with the 1km & 3km swims in the afternoon. Seven of our swimmers headed off in the Firbank 'Troupe Carrier' at 6:45am Saturday morning, with Jason at the wheel and Anna Mac navigating, they arrived at the Hazelwood Pond 2 hours later champing at the bit to get in the water. (Ok, maybe a bit of journalistic licence there.) Anna and Phoebe were the first Firbank Aquastars to take the plunge, heading off for the 5km swim, and the girls did fabulously. Josh was our only 3km swimmer and he managed to wipe 2 minutes from his last year's time. Zoe, Kieran, Mitch and Chelsea rounded out our 2011 team swimming in the 1km swim. In summary, the results were:

Victorian Age SC Championships 2011Date Added: 2011-08-29What a huge weekend of racing! Swimming Victoria said that they had a record number of entrants to this meet - and the jam-packed stands on the first night were a testament to this! According to the session report there were around 860 athletes swimming in Friday night (while their families and coaches sweltered in the stands - it would be great if MSAC worked out how to use the air-conditioning system!), it was standing room only! The first medal for Firbank Aquastars went to Megan Chia who won bronze in the 200 Back and from such an awesome start FAS went from strength to strength with a huge number of PBs achieved at the meet and an amazing number of finalists and medals! Congratulations to all our swimmers that attended the meet, in particular our medallists and finalists:
Firbank Aquastars finished the meet in 9th place - a nice improvement from 10th place at the same meet last year. Click here for a copy of the FAS results from the meet - please let me know if you have a split time (first 50 or 100 from your race time) that is a pb so that I can extract them for our results file. Thank-you to our team of great coaches that helped our swimmers attain their great results this weekend - in particular Jason Cooper and Nick Findeisen who attended every session over the weekend. (I apologise for any mistakes in the above summary - hopefully I have managed to pick up all the many finalist's names - there were a lot to go through!!)
